SUMMARY:Alumni Discussion | Ageism: How We Experience It
DESCRIPTION:For our first SADG meeting of 2023 we would like to explore the pros and cons of being older. \nThere has been a lot written about the subject of Ageism and we are suggesting below a few of the best short reads on the subject to spark our discussion.  But even if you have little or no time to prepare for the January 10th session\, we expect that our personal experiences will give us plenty to discuss. \nAgeism is so deeply embedded in our culture that we often don’t even notice it.  As with racism and other forms of discrimination\, the language we use to refer to older (or younger!) people can be harmful and perpetuate unfair stereotypes.  Ageist interactions may make older people feel devalued while younger people can feel passed over for jobs or promotions due to their age. \nOn the positive side\, pleasures and privileges come with longevity.  We will begin our discussion with these pros and cons of ageing.   We will focus on the ways we have experienced ageism and then brainstorm how to address the challenges we face as older Americans. \nWe are looking forward to having some fun hearing your anecdotes while respecting the serious research that is taking place on this important topic. \nBelow you will find a few links to short readings and a video to spark our conversation. \nView more here. \nEvent Information\nDate:  Tuesday\, January 10th\nTime: 10:00AM – 11:30AM ET\nLocation: iLab Room 102 & Virtual (via Zoom) \nPricing Information\nClub Members | Complimentary\nGeneral Public | Complimentary\nNot a Club Member?  Join today! \n\n\n	Related
